Pros: Works great right out of the box. No issues with hookup. Handled our network traffic without incident Cons: Worked fine in our office until day 43. All the lights began flashing (lights on unoccupied ports as well). I unplugged and replugged the power(only means of reset), no change. Called customer/Tech Support. Their answer was to quickly issue RMA and say not really anything else they could do. Got RMA email confirmation and reviewed the next morning-status BACKORDERED. Overall Review: Just as a test, after 30-40 minutes off, I re-connected the power and connected 2 ports-lights behaved correctly, left overnight. By the time I returned to work the next morning, spastic flashing had resumed. I will update if the replacement holds up better (or not) that the first.

Pros: absolutely fantastic switch. heavy duty metal case – easy wall mounting slots although finding screws with small enough heads is tricky. this switch DOES SUPPORT jumbo frames and has given incredible gigabit performance in over 5 business offices. ive installed about 6 or so fully loaded into heavy usage office environments with zero problem to date. doesnt run too hot unless you stack it with other gear without airflow. Cons: none

Pros: This is a great switch, at a great value. Jumbo frame support makes it a very good buy. Replacing an older 10/100 switch from Netgear, which was on 24×7 for 5 years, with no issues whatsoever. So hoping this would be as reliable, but it should be, as it is from Netgear, and they are build well. Cons: This switch HAS a fan, which is a little noisy. To solve it, I saw that the fan was a 5v fan, drawing .16 amps. Dropping the voltage to the fan to 3.8v, CONSIDERABLY reduces the noise, but still moves air (Switch has MASSIVE heat sinks on all its chips, so it is VERY WELL build, and this will not pose an issue). I simply placed a 10-Ohm resistor in series with the fan, and now it is quiet as a mouse, but still stays nice and cool! Consider the mod, if you have the switch close to you, and do not want a noisy fan. Overall Review: None.

Pros: Never was a cause of any network issue EVER, in 2.5 years of 24/7 service, never rebooted for cause or troubleshooting. The device smokes most of the junk out there NOW and I paid $139.00. Always stable, even when utilized at very near capacity. (23 servers with gigabit NICs and ultra fast SSD RAID 0 configurations) this backplane can support 48 Gbps…. 24 ports each with 1 Gbps full duplex-Switching bandwidth:48 gigabit per sec Cons: Well….fan noise, but that cooling is required when utilizing device to max specs…so not really a con when frying the appliance due to not having what is needed to run at full design spec, which is awesome. If you have this on your desk connected to a router, printer and a couple of other devices, the fan noise db level is static as the fan speed, so if you complain about fan noise, go hide it somewhere or admit you bought the wrong device for your needs. Overall Review: There are always some defects in mass manufacturing! But from what I have read here the cons are irrelevant and mostly stated from ignorance. But that goes for 99% of the folks who post and state they have a high tech knowledge.

Pros: Just works, Silent, internal power supply Cons: connectivity / speed lights are all on the left side of the box – prefer when the lights are above each port like on other netgear switches Overall Review: Lots of reviews of this product say it has a loud fan. The most recent version is fanless – I purchased in February 2013 – so totally silent. The marketing materials in the box have not been changed to reflect this, but the outside of the box now says fanless, and the unit is indeed silent.

Pros: This switch is fast and silent. As others have mentioned, the current revision of this switch is completely fanless. I also like the fact that it has an internal power supply. Lifetime warranty is a plus. Cons: I submitted my rebate to Netgear and about a week later I received an email containing my rebate tracking number. When I checked the rebate status online using the tracking number, I was surprised to see that my rebate was denied due to an ‘Invalid Purchase Location’. Nice. Newegg was clearly listed as a valid purchase location on the rebate form, and I had included my Newegg receipt in my rebate submission. I contacted the rebate company’s customer service department and the rep said that they would escalate my case to Netgear, and that I would be notified of the outcome within 7-10 business days. A few minutes later I checked my rebate status again and it had changed to “Your rebate is valid and is scheduled for final processing.” That was a fast 7-10 days 🙂 In the end I suspect I will receive my rebate, but I suggest that you keep an eye on yours.

Pros: Great Switch, we have had one on our business network for 4+ years with no problems. It just works. I’m getting ready to buy my second one today, and great deal. I paid $300.00 for the first one from our local IT consultant. Cons: None the I have Overall Review: I would like to mention, per Netgears Tech, there is no difference between the JGS524 & the JGS524NA. The “NA” is a country code. They also told me that all of their switches that are 24 ports or more have fans. Newegg has this listed as fanless. I can confirm my current one has a fan.
