Pros: It made very nice scans from the flatbed right away. The automatic page edge finder made explicit cropping unnecessary in most of the few scans I have done so far. It is a little quieter than an earlier HP model I have. (I have not yet tried two-sided scanning from the feeder, which is supposed to use two sensors so flipping the page is not needed. Resolution is supposed to go to 1200 dpi, but I’ve only tried 300 so far). Cons: -No linux support, I had to install the software in a Windows 10 VM. Not even TWAIN support apparently.
-No manual for the software, had to google to find it on line.
-The instructions, once you get them, are very incomplete. For example, I wanted to crop an image; this was not mentioned in the instructions. I guessed and double clicked the image in the window that shows the scan and that brought up another window where it was possible to do the crop. So cropping is there, but not easy to find, also other stuff if you look around.
-The real bummer–It takes two clicks to add another page when scanning a multipage document from the flatbad and the two places you have to click are far apart, so you have to move the mouse twice for every page.
-I couldn’t find any keyboard shortcuts, must use the mouse for everything.
-Clicking the scan button on the device indeed does a scan, but makes a separate file from whatever you are doing with the software. It would be nice if the button on the front would let you add a page to an ongoing scan instead of needing the two mouse clicks.
-Max flatbed image size is 8-1/2 x 11 maybe plus a little border. Auto feeder can take longer, not wider, materials. Overall Review: -Well, my earlier HP scanner works fine on Win 7 but there was no software upgrade to Win 10, so I bought this one, hoping the faster auto feed scans would make it worthwhile, but I haven’t needed to do that yet. I would say yes, I recommend the hardware, if you don’t mind fussing to use the software.
