Pros: Worked great in the winter with my gas heat. Definitely saved me some money over the winter. Cons: Did not function with my Air Conditioner. My HVAC is combined gas heat with electric AC. When warmer temps arrived, the unit was short cycling. I thought it was my AC unit and called repair man. He ran several tests and determined that it was, without a doubt, my thermostat. We uninstalled and reinstalled the thermostat. The repair guy had extensive knowledge regarding the unit. The thermostat still caused short cycling unless we ran it in test mode. It tested out fine but would not function in traditional modes. Repair man told me that he has run into this several times with the Nest thermostat and recommended that I purchase a Honeywell thermostat. I think I will.

Pros: Easy to install and use. The desktop and smartphone apps are good. Customer support is excellent. Cons: In my case I had to have a new wire run from the heat pump to the thermostat in order to get it working properly. I only had a 4 wires and needed 6. Once I did this it worked. While the Nest provides better reports than anything I’ve ever had before I wish it provided even better data, for example the exact times it turns my heat pump on/off. Overall Review: I’m on a combined advantage plan from my power company. While this can control time-of-day, it cannot control/limit “Demand” usage per hour. This capability is critical for controlling my cost.

Pros: very nice looking compared to the one originally installed in the apartment easy to use Cons: when I adjust temperature, the A/C reacts a little bit slower than old control which happens almost instantly. e.g. if I turn up temperature with old control, A/C fan shut down almost instantly but with Nest, I wait about 30 – 60sec before fan shuts off. Not a big deal but it’s something I noticed. Overall Review: make sure to push extra wires into the hole on the wall and don’t leave too much wires directly under the thermostat. Mine kept restarting during setup due to too much wires underneath the thermostat and the wires interfered its ability to distinguish if the user is pressing the ring.
