Pros: Nice, when it works. Easy set-up. Decent software Cons: 5Ghz network flaked out about a week ago. 2.4 now has died as well. Can’t access router to reset. Basically, inoperable. Overall Review: Impossible to contact ASUS support–totally unresponsive. Looks like $200 down the drain.

Pros: Fast and has great range. A lot of potential if firmware improves. Cons: Problems with my streaming devices and AIO printer storage. Client table has many issues. Requires hard reset when things go wrong. Overall Review: I have been using this router for about 7 weeks. The router is fast and has very good range but the firmware still has issues. In the first week I noticed several issues. The number of clients listed under the wireless bands is not stable and some clients are listed in the wrong connection type or not at all. Also the number of clients listed in the wireless part of the client table will at times drop to 0 and display “no data”. Not sure what’s going on with that but the issue that give me the most trouble is that I am often unable to find my Chromcast or FireTV with my mobile devices. They are listed in the client table but the phones and tablets don’t see them. The other issue is that I am unable to access the storage on my Epson AIO printer at times. Sometimes these issues show up after adding a new device to the network or after changing settings in the client table. To correct them I have to do a hard reset. I have around 30 devices on my network and they all worked on my RT-ac66u. I have called and sent a number of emails to Asus but no solution was found. This router has taken too much of my time trying to trouble shoot these issues. For now my rating is 3 eggs but I believe the router has potential. My advice would be (especially if you have a large network) to wait till the firmware is more mature.

Pros: – Powerful router compared to my previous Fios quantum router. I can exclusively use the 5ghz band in the house. I could barely get a stable 2.4ghz stable signal in the basement with my previous router. I can still get 1-2 bars with the 5ghz band in the corner of my basement when the Asus router is located on the first floor. Cons: – Stock firmware doesn’t display temperature. Supposedly Merlin firmware does. – Router seems to run kind of warm. Overall Review: I’d advise against using AIProtection feature as it sends all website url you visit to Trend Micro / ASUS.

Pros: Its fast Cons: Unstable new firmware Overall Review: After having this for almost a year, i can see why it was best rated. But after installing to the newest firmware “3.0.0.4.384.21140” i have had nothing but issues with it. After a factory reset and reapplying the same firmware…same issue of wifi randomly not transmitting or recieving devices. I checked security, no issues there, any ipconflicts or disruption of signals, everything seems to be normal. I downgraded firmware and nothing changed. Even directly plugging into the switch instead of using the wifi doesnt let me through to the net. Im stuck using my modems built in wifi for now. Its a great product, but something with this new firmware i feel broke the system. Still troubleshooting

Pros: Good range . I was able to connect to the Roku streaming stick + which is about 35ft away with several walls between it and the Router . I was able to use the 5ghz band with connection speed of 75Mb/s which is more than adequate for the Roku. Setup was relatively easy . However I did not expect the default IP was 192.168.50.1 !! I was wondering why I could not connect to the router until I did a search . I promptly changed it back to 192.168.1.1 after successful login . Cons: Upgrading to latest firmware took a bit of time . It failed in the first attempt because I did not understand what was meant by being patient after the firmware was downloaded. Second attempt was successful . I had to reenter all the info again after firmware update. Overall Review: Very definitely yes.

Pros: I’ve owned two other Asus routers in the past with mixed results (i.e. – overheating and 2.4 GHz stability issues) but the Asus AC2900 has performed flawlessly since replacing our TPLink router. The AC2900’s speed, range, and stability have been excellent and we’re now able to receive a good wifi signal in every room of our 2200+ sq. ft. home without an extender. Throughput is at the max speed of our internet service (200 Mbps) at distances of 50+ feet. This router handles multiple device connections without buffering or “glitching” and has not required a reboot since I configured it 3+ weeks ago. The AsusWRT firmware is highly configurable, but definitely less intuitive than the other firmware interfaces I’ve used (Netgear, Linksys, TPLink). That said, once you become familiar with the AsusWRT interface, it’s fairly easy to find your way around. Cons: The AsusWRT firmware check & upgrade functionality didn’t work for me so I had to search for, download, and apply the latest firmware file manually (from within AsusWRT). This is more of an annoyance because automatic firmware updates are generally a one-click deal with other router brands. Also, configuring the router for remote/wireless administration can be a bit tricky so be sure to read through the procedure carefully beforehand and save the generated remote admin URL if you choose to enable this option. Overall Review: Although I can’t (yet) speak to its long-term reliability, the Asus AC2900 is definitely a great choice for speed, stability, and long-range connectivity.
