Pros: This drive is simple to get up and going in a pool; just plug, format and play. Noticed and increase in speed due to the increase in cache from my older Toshiba drive that only had 128MB instead of 256MB. Cons: I haven’t seen any yet. Overall Review: The migration of data onto the drive from the pool went quickly and smoothly and the drive has been running well since.

Pros: I added 2 of these to a Synology DX513 NAS. I have had no problems rebuilding the RAID with them and seem to be getting get write speeds of about 160 Mbps. I have noticed they run a few degrees cooler than the other WDC Red NAS’s in the system, about 97 when others are 102. These were slightly cheaper than the Seagate Exos at the time of purchase and decided to not go with Seagate IronWolf or Pro model. I am happy with these so far no regrets. We are using for personal photo backups to…

Pros: The Toshiba MG series are definitely good value per GB and 12TB can handle a lot of photos, video and games. Cons: The drive head assembly is slightly audible but this has to be expected with a 16 head assembly reading the stack of 8 plates. Overall Review: No question that 8 plates and 12TB storage brings a new capacity that used to be sold to server vendors who now are using 16TB and 18TB disks. The smaller disks are now less expensive and consumers can now have 7,200 rom…

Pros: – Quieter than expected. Less noisy than my 10TB Seagate Exos. – Faster than expected. I run these in USB enclosures and achieve 220MB/s consistently. – 5 Year Warranty Cons: – Warranty processing can take months. One of my 8TB Toshiba Enterprise drives died and they took 50 days to ship a replacement once they received it. On the positive side, it was a brand new replacement and not a refurb. Overall Review: Best deal on a 16TB drive I have found. Toshiba has has good performance and…

Pros: Large, fast, not too loud as some have complained. Cons: Poor shipping practice by newegg. Overall Review: The drives came in mostly intact but they shipped in cheapo clam shells. 3 drives stuffed in a rather large box filled with those air bag thingies. The drivers fell out of their clam shells and were just sloshing around in the box. I was expecting 3 doa, but some how they are spinning so far. The NAS is testing them right now, hopefully they are all healthy. 1 egg off for neweggs…

Pros: Runs 5c cooler then my EXOS & IronWolf Helium filled drives Runs 10-15c cooler then my non helium drives Great performance with a preclear of over 260MBs peak, 210MBs half way through and I think it bottomed out at 180MBs Cons: Nothing so far Overall Review: I bought two of these to add to my unraid server and so far I’ve been really surprised by how cool they run. Seriously 5-10c cooler then my other drives. Enough so just looking at temps you know 100% which are the Toshibas and I…

Pros: Drive is fast. During the transfer process of about 5tb of data onto this drive, it was rather quick. The cache would saturate, slow down and speed up again, but the average speed is faster then any mechanical drive Ive ever owned. For whatever thats worth. It was getting the data from a 4 disk array of older, smaller drives. It is silent. I do realize this is a mixed bag and others may not be, but sometimes they are silent. It is large. 12tb is a ton of data. Ill need to purchase…
